La Reine de la Route
La Reine de la Route
In 1934, Citroën the French automobile manufacturer, introduced the revolutionary Traction Avant model - the world's first mass-produced front-wheel drive car. Until the year 1954 only black Citroën Traction Avant cars were sold, and in 1939 the 6 cylinders and 15 Horsepower model was unveiled. This model was at the time one of the fastest in France, the prime reason for the organized crime bosses and the French police alike, to eagerly adopt it. Thus, the Traction Avant was involved in numerous police-gangsters pursuits and consequently nicknamed - La Reine de la Route - The Queen of the Road.

While creating the ‘Queen of the Road’ - La Reine de la Route - shown above, I knew that I want to bestow a homage to Andy Warhol, who significantly inspired my work. After a couple of years during which I examined the ‘12 Queens’ concept that satisfies me, I am happy to present here the final artwork, hopefully for your pleasure.

Tin Soldier, Homage to Elvis Presley
Tin Soldier, Homage to Elvis Presley
The Royal Danish Life Guards Regiment serves as a guard as well as a ceremonial unit to the Danish Monarchy. While on guard duty, the uniform of the Guards consists of dark blue tunics and light blue trousers with white stripes. The ceremonial uniform, worn on special state occasions, substitutes a scarlet tunic for the dark blue. The artist, fascinated by the glorious uniform, has projected it to the Danish Hans Christian Andersen's 'The Steadfast Tin Soldier', and meticulously portrayed it from all four viewpoints, adopting the face of Elvis Presley, his childhood hero.

Marriage, Yellow
Marriage, Yellow
Marriage is too personal to elaborate. However, let's remember that it is a kind of union between spouses, usually decorating themselves with wedding rings. In this scene, there is only one such ring and the apparently masculine hand is bleeding, seemingly because of the sharp edge in the stiletto shoe... but we already elaborate too much...

Marriage, Black
Since we’ve already too much elaborated above on marriage, let’s only mention that ‘Marriage, Black’ is largely similar to its cousin ‘Marriage, Yellow’ above, and the main difference lies with the precise cut around its contour, leaving the dark starry night out of the picture…

I Love NY
I Love NY
The Statue of Liberty is a figure of a liberty goddess overlooking Manhattan, which turned into an American icon and a symbol of freedom. The Nine Eleven attack on the World Trade Center in Lower Manhattan is the single deadliest terrorist attack in human history. Not only the two 110-story towers collapsed during the attack, the American freedom spirit has been severely affected as well, and 'I Love NY' was created as a tribute to the world sought-after peace and freedom.

The artwork composition is an imaginary and impossible combination of Manhattan's buildings viewed from the East River, on which we see their reflections, along with the the Statue of Liberty, as seen from the south. The scene is shown at night, and the moon is replaced by the famous red heart from the slogan and logo of I Love New York, which contributed its name to the work, a moon that like the buildings, is also reflected on the water.

The artist is proud to thank Gudmundur Gudmundsson Erró, a renowned Pop-Art painter of Icelandic origin, who gave the artist the inspiration to use the Statue of Liberty for this work.
